As an aside,  I love ritual it is the best spiritual exercise i get.

I never liked rituals much before but recently I've descovered the creative aspect of my own ritual creation. When I was younger I used a lot of reference materials. Now, since getting back into regular observance, I use only my own.
That being said, I still use spontanious connection (for lack of a better word) in most of my spiritual work. Tonight for instance, I am walking in my garden under the full moon and asking for a nice growing season this year. Pretty spontaneous and very powerful because of the connections I am feeling.
This is pretty much how I live my life. So far I have been blessed. If I have need and am brave enough to ask, I usually get what I need. The circle is a wonderful experience but so is life.

There is spontaneous connection and there are the connections that are yours forever by living your life.
Other peoples written ritual often does not live for me.  You need to believe in what you are doing. Not in what the Grand Poobah wrote.

I find that in circle I can develop connections from someone who is really doing what they believe in.

I like your take on this. "doesn't live for me" explains it exactly.
By creating my own I find I am able to concentrate more on the subject of the working instead of structure of the ritual. I'm familiar with it since I created it so I don't have to dedicate concentration to doing it right.
