hey there mathew-Silverravenwolfs books are pretty good along with a lot of others but as others have said some do not reperesent that much of the actual craft-it comes in bits and pecies at first and experience seems to be the best teacher for me at this point as i dont have the benefit of meeting teachers in person or have a coven around here. just witch friends. althogh through the years i can say ive figured a few things out maybe :)except as a buddist ive hade no formal teaching. i did like Silverravenwolfs book "Solitary Witch" though and its big and give lots of room for imagination-a person really needs to know the ins and out of circle casting calling quaterts and the esbats and sabbats. these have been more important  to me lately. celebrating a sabbat and esbat can do one wonders. finding a name is different however as ive heard that only you and your coven members should know your craft name and that it should be based on the numerology of your name. other than that have fun dancing beneath the full moon and blessed be~wer'e always learning-meditation is usefull too

Welcome and Merry Meet Mathew, there are a ton of discussions on the forum about many great books you just merely have to click the search button thing. As for helpful sites, this is the most reliable one that I have found thus far. Good luck and blessed be!

Hello there and welcome!

This site is definitely one of the best on the Net for information, IMO.  Just start digging through the older posts on your own, or use the Search feature as LupusStormDancer mentioned.  You'll find posts on just about anything and everything.

As a matter of fact, there was post not too long ago about finding your magical name.... let's see if I can find it...

http://www.witchforum.net/forum/index.php/topic,13603.0.html

and this one...

http://www.witchforum.net/forum/index.php/topic,17807.0.html

Hope this helps!

Brightest Blessings

I Am

A blossoming Green Witch am I,With plant wisdom and magic to share.
A child of the flowers am I,With blossoms budding from my hair.
A friend of the Fairies am I,A crown of leaves and flowers I wear.
A daughter of the Earth am I,Walking Her ways with feet ever bare.
A sister of the waters am I,Flowing wild and free without a care.
At one with the blowing winds am I,Singing softly through the midnight air.
A keeper of the fire am I,Let me kindle your passions if you dare.
Connected in Spirit with You am I,Fused together as one in prayer.

Merry met!

The best advice I can think to give you is this;

Read everything and anything you can get your hands on; but take it all with a grain of salt. Everybody has a different version of exactly what Wicca is, because it's different to every person. It's a very personal belief and a very spiritual path. For some, the core of their Wicca is uniting their own natural life force with that of the world around them and becoming one with nature. For others, it's tapping into a cosmic power that flows throughout all things and the universe and harnessing that power for their own will. For some it's a God and Goddess, for some it's one or the other, for some it's neither and for others it's many Gods.

The best thing I can advise you to do is to read EVERYTHING and then take from it what feels right to you.

So long as you follow the Wiccan Rede (google if you don't already know it. Google is a wonderful tool) and master the basics of energy, self-control and thought before you jump into spellcasting, no harm will come to you and your path will be guided and guarded with light and prosperity. All the best wishes to you!

Like ebbing tides we come and go,
We forget, we learn and know,
We teach ourselves and others new,
What to be, and why, and who,
And while we strive we claim to be,
The best we can, "the perfect me",
But looks will fade and luck dissolve,
You are defined by your resolve.
