It's great to have you back and to hear you are feeling better Suzie
I ran across a little information you might want to know about. There are people who have heart attacks and just pass them off as muscular pains never realizing they just had a heart attack. They are young, excercise regulary, have a good BMI, do not smoke and eat what is considered a fairly healthy diet and still face similar episodes as to what you described. They never make the connection it is still their diet. From what I understand not all doctors perform
LDL tests
unless requested. Hopefully your doctor has already done so. Easing up on the stress levels is great advice but I'm thinking the stress is only a symptom of a deeper underlying problem.

Glad your alright Suzie. I hope it's not due to age, because I've gone through the same thing your going through and I refuse to be old -lol. The doctor's final verdict was that I was just under too much stress and gave me anti-anxiety meds that didn't really do anything.
I try never to loose my temper, because it usually hurts me more then it hurts whoever I'm yelling at. Maybe you just need to learn how to be cold and dispassionate and carry around a big pointy stick to jab people with when the need arises -lol.

I am called The Earth Mother, because of my compassion and empathy, so the likelihood of learning to be cold are so remote.
I have also learned to be very strong and brave over the years, and very rarely allow my emotions to run away to the point where I would become a liability to my own body. All my friends and family have always said I am so strong. Yet here I am showing anxiety pains so bad it is causing my body to almost shut down if I get upset - what happened? I keep telling myself to get a grip, and pull myself towards myself, yet the moment someone shouts or gets in my face I break down - something I have never done!
Maybe I should just take a pill and relax! Stupid me!

You can't make yourself healthy by brute force against your illness. It would be better if you don't take the pill and do relax. I think you should budget time to just goof off and do nothing special. Too often we need a vacation after our vacation. Make it so that you can reach others but they can not reach you directly.

You can't help others, until you help yourself Suz. Me thinks its all just catching up with you.

I had the same problem a few years ago. It was down to stress and terrible eating habits (our kitchen was being remodeled at the time.)
I agree that the best thing for you is to step back, relax and take control of your life. Medication can sometimes help, but maybe the best thing is to get your family on your side and work with you on dealing with the stress.

Suzie, as you already know, our bodies change as we get older. Unfortunately, it's usually not for the better either. The levels of stress, poor diet, and lack of overall care catches up with us. The things we could easily handle in our youth...like stress...tend to kick our butts when we're older. If you're having these episodes at times you experience a sudden upset, chances are good that it does have something to do with your heart or blood pressure. It may not be a problem that is leaving physical evidence yet, but the signs are telling you it's time to change the way you handle problems. It's your body's way of saying, "don't sweat the small stuff". To get yourself back in balance, you may have to learn to pay a little better attention to yourself. As it's already been said, you may have to learn to step back from things that upset you. It's not easy, when you have spent a lifetime of taking care of other people, but your body is telling you not to forget that you matter too.
Speaking from experience, I have been on heart and blood pressure medications since I was 43 years old. I have never smoked, rarely drink, I watch my diet, and try to take care of myself. However, I have the worst of family genetics from both sides of my family. Family history plays a very significant roll in your health as you get older. Stress factors play another. Given my family history, I couldn't have picked a worse profession to spend my life in. So I started showing signs of heart disease at a much younger age than most. Even with this information, it was very difficult to get a clear, objective diagnosis from a cardiologist. I learned that you diagnosis can vary greatly from one doctor to another. My diagnosis ran the range of one who wanted to crack my chest open to do surgery, to one who didn't believe anything was wrong with me. This was because I was a 43 year old female, and the "statistics didn't support a female having heart trouble". I wasn't ready for surgery, but I knew something was wrong. Luckily I found a good cardiologist who allowed me to have some say in my treatment. He found the problem (abnormally formed valves in my heart that don't pump properly). The right medications have extended the quality of life I have for years. I see my cardiologist every 6 months, and he monitors my aging heart very closely. When the time comes for surgery, I'll be prepared. Until then, I feel pretty good. I recognize factors that cause me problems, and I've learned to deal with stress before it gets the better of me.
I tell you all of this as a warning. If your doctor's diagnosis seems like guess work, then it probably is. If he can't clearly tell you what is wrong, then seek a second opinion. DO NOT be afraid to ask questions. It's your health at stake. And listen to your body. Minimizing the symptoms you experience will only make the problem worse later on. Chest pains during episodes of upset are very real. They are telling you something. Listen.
Much love, Suz.

I have just printed this thread to not only read for myself, but thought I would let my husband look it over as well.
I haven't been on holiday for many years now, so have decided that the pull of the sea is now a roar!
I take your advise as well Ken, I will take my cell phone but it will probably stay in the cupboard during the day -
My husband and I do watch out for our diet, and whilst we do stray over the edge with choccies once in a while, rule of thumb we are careful and eat all our minimum daily requirements in regards to fruit and veg, cereals, nuts & many other healthy things.
Ann will consider a second opinion if it happens again, thanks for your lengthy and wise reply.
Lupus and McGoonagle thank you for your advise!
Sprite what can I say love you to death!

I'm sorry I didn't see this, Miz Suz! Even though you're doing a better, I'll still send some energies.

Thanks my friend, it has been a slightly worrying thing, as my husband was concerned I was going to have a full blown heart attack. Anyway it seems to be subsiding slowly and each time I get anxious the attack does not seem so severe, so maybe I am indeed monitoring it correctly now and relaxing. Thank you so much!
