A friend of mine has claimed that he's having trouble with a spirit in his house. His only proof is his word, not that I don't believe him or anything. Well, he asked for my advice on what to do, since his visitor has been causing mischeif. I'm not an expert on the subject, but I suggested he burn some sage...I really couldn't think of anything else, so if you guys know of anything else that could help, I would really appreciate it. Even if it's just something that may ease his mind, and stop him from texting me all hours of the night  banghead

Thanks in advance.

Is he a practitioner of anything? What sort of activity is it?

It's really hard to give good advice without knowing where the activity is comming from and what type of solution he can work on his own. You might have to go over there and check it out for him.  Undecided

Here is what I posted in a other threat. I assume your friend is not pagan, if asking the spirit to leave fails, maybe you could to the ritual for him.

We are currently living in the apartment of my deceased Grandparents which I loved dearly. Shortly after we moved in about 6 years ago, we had a spirit or spirits in the house. My husband kept on nagging me until I did a ritual, after that we had no "visits" anymore for a very long time, only occationally. This late summer early fall we had some activity again and I refused to do a ritual, the activity stopped on it's own right after Samhain.
I did not feel threathened and no harm was done, in cases like this I like to think of deceased relatives and/or friends that are stopping by to check on us, that's why I refused to do the ritual when my husband asked me to. I wouldn't want to kick a friend or family member out of the house.
If you are bothered by this, just do what Medicine Fox suggested and ask the spirit to leave. If that doesn't help, do a ritual.
If you can't create your own, there are plenty of recourses out there where you can find a fitting ritual from.

I hope this helps you a little bit

Problem is, he doesn't really believe that a ritual will do anything...and no, he's not pagan. That's why I'm having such a problem helping him; he wants something that he believes will give him immediate results.

As to the activity, he told me it has been moving objects, slamming doors...pretty much what you would normally expect from a spook. But, when I went over his house to 'investigate', I didn't see any kind of activity myself. *sigh* I really don't see how I can help ease his mind.

This is a though one, huh? Only thing I can advise then is that he and however else is living at this apartment are sitting down together and firmly tell this spirit that it's not wanted there. That your friend is living there now and the spirit needs to move on.

The good old standard tea tree oil mixed with camphor. Mix it together and pour it into a dish. The fumes will tweek the vibration in the area up a notch and make physical manifestation more difficult for the visitor... or even for his own psychic energy gone wild... if that's what it is.  You can also try eucalyptus oil and rose absolute... more of combo to lift his vibes up, but should also impact the environment.

Sage is good, but the scent might not linger long enough to convince the visitor to find somewhere else to play.

For reference: Using a heavy yang force and quickly popping it with yin is what's used to cause physical manifestations. In spell craft it would be like building up huge energies in ritual then suddenly letting go completely. If you have a nasty around, or something that's just being annoying, if you can make the vibrational environment unsuitible for them do affect the physical world that's often enough to convince them to give up and move on.

Of course, it might not be a ghost. It could be faulty wiring in the house, solar flares or some other factor that's opening up the environment for mischief.

Thanks for the suggestions! I let him know the options you all gave, and he said he'll probably make do with the tea tree oil mixture.
I brought up to him that there could be some physical problems with his house, so he's going to have someone come by to check the wiring and whatnot.

I did also try telling him to befriend whatever has decided to take up a room at his house. Ya know, kinda like a casper thing...he hung up on me >_< lol

He is asking for advise. It is HIS job to listen and trust something not just those solutions he already  knows about.  I am tired of people whose minds are made up, so do not confuse them with facts or as them to think or question what they " Know "   grump grump grump.

Little update, I gave him all the advice you guys gave me. I even gave him a ritual I knew just in case he wanted to try that. He didn't tell me which method he ended up using, but he told me that the activity has ceased.

So thank you guys so much for you help, and he sends his graditute as well.  Smiley
