I'm really confused and I want to know if this is normal!!!

Okay I was doing a spell for my friend last night and I was using fire like I always do, fire fasinates me and I don't know why, I'm drawn to burning things but yesterday, well actually earlier today, I was using fire and it was a pretty low, not to hot fire in my pot that I use to  aviod setting my room on fire, toward the end of my spell, I was focusing on making it work, it was a spell to help her heal emotionaly because her Grandfather died yesterday, but toward the end of my spell when I was focusing on the intent and everything, I felt extrememly passionate about it, and I felt something like a tug, like when you pick something up but it was centered in my abdomine, and I felt a pull in my head, like I was doing complicated math or something, and the fire which had been dying flared, really high, really hot, and really bright like I had turned on the room light, it was so hot that it the heat of it went through the pot didn't burn the pot but the carpet of my room was melted to the pot, and I use fire with most of my spells and thats never happened before, and it scared me, I poured water on the fire but I still felt the pull and tug and everything and it wouldn't go out, the candles I had set to represent spirit and fire where burning oddly high too, I couldn't get any of the flames to go down until I stopped and grounded/meditated, it would go out, and I don't know if it was normal or not but it was really cool but it has never happened before

The closest I've come to experiencing this is when I send energy to people, only my heart beat and breathing speed up.    

However, I do have a few suggestions. The next time you go to do something involving fire, please get a stand of some sort so that it is not sitting directly on the carpet. It melted the carpet this time, but if the fire gets hot enough, it could catch the carpet on fire. Also, PLEASE get a fire extinguisher and keep it near you when you do any magic involving fire. I don't know how much they cost now adays, but growing up my folks had a small one about the size of a paint can can of spray paint that they kept in the kitchen.

It's possible that you poured too much energy into the spell, causing the fire to react in a powerful way, but I am always hesitant to attribute physical phenomena to magic.  You see, magic is most effective with emotions, somewhat effective with minds, and least effective with physical objects.  Therefore, in order for your magic to have affected the fire it must have been at a strength that I find unlikely.  Just be careful when using fire in the future.

Get safety equiptment, for sure, as WendyAnne suggested.

But also, after making the area as safe as possible, try to do it again. Honestly, if you're that intune with fire, you should do what you can to practice it and master it. I would advice not doing it in your home any longer, if that's possible. Dig a small pit in the backyard or something. So if the fire does get a bit out of hand, you won't be necessarily risking your life or the life of others. Still keep the safety equiptment close at hand, however, even when working outside.

Fire is a powerful element, and with that power it is very dangerous and unpredictable (as I'm sure you're aware)

If you work really well with fire, then it's totally normal    The tugs and pulls sound like you just hit that certain sweet spot in magick where your air was fueling the fire for the spell.

Think of it this way, your hand is part of you and will be repsonsive to your will. In the same way, the elements are part of you and will be responsive to your will, but to varying degrees depending on how you choose to train yourself.

Earth is very slow to react, but once set in motion it can be the most powerful. Think of an earthquake. On the physical level it's like trying to get up and do excercise or stick to a diet when you don't want to... but once your a trained athlete your body is a thing of great power.

Water is a little quicker to react but still not the easiest to get moving. Once in motion it's nearly as powerful as moving earth. Think of a tidal wave. On the physical it's like your emotions. You can't jump from hate to love or vice versa without a lot of effort, but once in play they are very powerful emotions!

Fire is next on the scale of reactiveness. It's easy to get moving but more difficult to direct and can get out of hand if your not careful. On the physical it would be equated with our desire nature and passion.

Air is the easiest to get moving and most difficult to direct. If earth was likened to driving a tank, water to a large boat, fire to a street legal sports car, then air would be like a formula one racer at top speeds. On the physical it's like our thoughts.

In magick orders they always start you out with earth and then move up the elements. It's harder to accidentally whip up and earthquake or tidal wave than it is a house fire-lol

Thanks everybody, I have some saftey equitmet now, I want to see if I can do it again, I'm really curious, I'll let you all know if it happens again, but I'm going to do it on a much smaller scale like a candle, instead of an actual big fire

The sensation you sensed in your abdomen (solar plexus chakra) is commonly associated with the energy of willpower, and the sensation in your head could have been your third eye chakra (associated with psychic activity), so it could have been that because you were focusing your intent so strongly (since your friend is someone who matters to you), that perhaps you activated your solar plexus chakra and third eye chakra, allowing you to channel the necessary energy for your spell to manifest in greater potential.

You could do a bit of research on chakras, meditation, and centering to help better focus, direct, and control your energy when doing spells in the future (particularly ones you feel strongly about). Centering allows you to control and retain the energy you've raised without getting distracted or burned out from overload, and it also helps retain high levels of energy raised for a certain purpose without having to ground it out and deplete its potential).

In closing, I agree with everyone above, be careful with fire - I've also had my fair share of "mishaps".

I don't have much to add, but I would like to suggest instead of just "some sort of stand" that you specifically look for a thick ceramic trivet large enough to hold the cauldron. They're designed to absorb heat and wouldn't be likely to just be something else that may catch fire before setting the carpet on fire too.

Yeah, that sounds better.    For some of my smaller candles, I set them on one of those drainage saucers that you set a potted plant on. I don't know if one of those would work for something bigger though.

For curiousity factor, after you try it a few more times and can get it to happen again, why don't you videotape it? Maybe having something physical to review will help you understand what's going on, and could lead you to control it more. Just an idea. Good luck.

Thanks guys, and the stand I got is that glass like metal the kind they make beakers for chemestry out of and I mediatate alot and I'm definatly going to do reasearch on the Chakras I know what they are but don't know much about them so itd be good to check it out, I tried doing it again with a candle and didn't actually cast a circle but I focused alot on the actual flame and made it go up some not nearly as much as before though

From where I am at it seems that you do have an affinity for Fire. I would recommend that you start to develop this. Classes apprenticeships in Sand Casting bronze, Glass Blowing and Blacksmithing would improve your control and understanding of fire.

If you feel the call,  learning MageSmithing is something that the Craft needs. If you go this way I can almost guarantee that you would become one of the top ten makers of Magical tools in the USA ( there are only about seven of us )  It wont pay the mortgage but I have loved it for forty years.
