I haven't been sleeping very well lately, so I'm really sleep. Every time I try to sleep in my bed, I keep seeing visions. I'm not seeing while I am asleep but while I'm trying to sleep. They are faces of horrible disfigured monsters. They are very disturbing and I literally see hundreds of completely different ones a night. I don't think my brain is smart enough to come up with the look of all of these beasts, so hopefully it's not all in my head. I am not really into worshiping or praising the Egyptian Bastet (I've actually never really done anything with her, as I don't really believe in any Gods that aren't the God or Goddess), but naturally I simply repeated "The Cat is my Protector". The creatures were then replaced by visions of Ancient Egyptian cat statues, I don't know what made me say that phrase. One of the visions I am experiencing also is coming with a strange sensation. She isn't disturbing at all, but all I see is a painting version of Babylonian plaque known as the Bunrey Relief or the Queen of the Night relief. When I see her I feel less afraid but still on edge, and she seems to slow down the other visions. I don't know what she is, I've looked her up and many believe she is the goddess Inanna or Erishkigal or a depiction of Lilitu demon. I don't know what she or the other visions mean, and I don't know what Bastet has too do with it (I think it is Bastet, that is who I think of when seeing Egyptian cats). This has been going on for about three nights now, and I hope it doesn't happen again. I'm really confuse and tired, I'm only 15 and I've only been a pagan officially for two years I haven't had experience with this stuff since I was little (when I was little I could see any beings that weren't spirits, I couldn't see spirits). I don't know if I should try to call upon the she-creature or Bastet. I'm definitely not going to summon one of the other visions, they are freakin creepy. Please help!

OK First of all, Bastet is an Egyptian goddess. Secondly, the Burney Relief is a depiction of the goddess Lilith (The biblical Adam's first wife). The connection between Lilith and Inanna is that she appeared in the huluppu tree when Inanna wanted to harvest it for it's wood. Lilith had made a home in it. When Gilgamesh came along and slayed the snake at the base of the tree Lilith fled. That's my extent of knowledge of Lilith. But she is not Inanna. She is Lilith.

I can't speak as to the involvement of Lilith or Bastet in your visions, but I can tell you that the visions are a natural part of the brain slipping into a sleeping state. It is a state known as hypnagogic sleep. I'm sorry I don't have any actual answers for you, but hopefully at least the information I have provided can help you.

When I saw your other post I was going to vote ereshkigal, after a little googling I think I'm going to stick with that answer. Here's a link to an article that make the case that the crown clearly makes her Innanna or Ereshkigal (who might have been two sides of the same coin as they were sisters) http://www.matrifocus.com/BEL05/spotlight.htm She didn't say it in the article, but the half disk above the horizon in her hands and the level at which she holds them says she is not completely of the below regions, she is a lady of the earth... at least that's what I get.

As TWolf said, it's normal to get this sort of imagery as you go down into a state of sleep. How long the borderline state lasts varies. If your getting this figure at the same time as you make your metiphorical decent, that seems appropriate. Your dropping into the dark water of the collective unconscious and picking up the images that people cast off there. It can be frustrating and disturbing, but I doesn't necessarily have anything to do with you or you spiritual state really... so no worries. Once you get over the stage of fear, then you can always amuse yourself with making the images change, tap dancing mummy, beauty make over for the creepy creatures. A sense of humor goes a long way.

Damn. I went to see a specialist and she said yes it is probably hypnagogia. She compared it to sleep problems that I never really thought about. I've heard voices, but I actually seriously thought they were my neighbors yelling at each other. I've always seen fuzzy dots that always make up shapes. Okay, I'm officially insane ^_^! now I want to know why my [DELETED - PROFANITY] head came up with these imagines.....now it's time for Dream interpretation.

I've read some dream interpretation books, although the names of them elude me right now. Maybe going to the library or book store can help you out?
Either way, I think you really need rest.

I have insomnia, and no pills have helped, (not even melatonin) at least without screwy side effects. So I've been trying other methods. A good one that seems to help(if only a little) is no caffeine a couple hours before you try to lay down as well as a good diet.

That may not help the imagination running amuck, but it might get you to a deeper sleep a bit quicker.

As far as who that might be that your dreaming about, I think Truffeldude's pic seemed very accurate in the details you mentioned(i dont see the pic now, but i did earlier) and so did Thunderwolf's on who it may be.

At any rate, I wish you well rested, and luck on your inquiry.

Blessed Be
