I sprained my ankle yesterday, after I missed a step.  I felt so ridiculous, hands went up in the air and down I went, like a sack of potatos.   s_laugh
At first I wasn't sure that I'd be able to get up, but when I realized how stupid I would look sitting on the ground if someone opened the door that was right there, I forced myself up.  I walked around on it a bit and it started to feel ok.  But despite taking some pain meds last night, it kept me up all night, and it hurts pretty badly and its swollen this morning.  I'm already working on the rest, ice, compression, elevate (although I still have to either find the compression bandages or go out and get one.  Roll Eyes )
I feel a little silly asking for this, but I have 3 kids & don't have anyone nearby that can help out, so any healing vibes sent my way would be greatly appreciated.  I know I've mentioned in other posts- hubby is in another state, and I've been working on getting the house packed so that when we find a place we can go.
Thanks.

Hon, you should see a doctor just to be on the safe side.  Healing vibes to you!

I'd like to second all of the above! The last time I fell and twisted my ankle it didn't sprain. I tore a ligament. Yours probably is just a sprain. A torn ligament isn't likely something you'd mistake for a sprain. But right after it happened I was able to get up and walk/limp too.

Sprained ankles suck (I know, I used to do something like that at least twice a year). I'm sending some healing energy your way. Hope you're feeling better soon.

A warm epsome salt soak might help.

You can also use a cane until you feel better. The drug store here carries some nice leopard print ones that are really cool looking. A good cane can also come in handy for dealing with children (jk)  043

Sending healing vibes you way.

Ken Ra & Rhi HU- you both made me seriously LOL   043

The ankle is still swollen, but it's much easier to walk on.  I can even make it up and down the stairs without resorting to crawling or a butt-scoot.  Tongue

Hubby is coming home this weekend, so that will help, and we may have found a house.  Crossing my fingers.

Thank you all for the healing thoughts- they are helping!

Benadryl is your friend.  I know this sounds weird, but anti-histamines are also anti-inflammatory.  The histamine response is what causes all that inflammation.  This would probably be more effective as soon as you receive the injury, but it might still help.  Also, Ace bandages are good for compression, but so are tight socks.

Also remember that RICE is only good for about 48 hours.  After that, moist heat and elevation is your best bet.  Also (and I am the LAST person that has any right to lecture about this) inflammation is a protective feature to keep you from moving and walking on your ankle.

Thanks for listening.  (At least once a week I have to say something to justify all of those nursing school loans).  Cheesy
