Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen[smile].
But, if ShrinkingMikey IS indeed laughing at us, then what exactly is it that he's got to find so funny about this whole thread?

"Hey, I'm going to go on a chat forum filled with people who work real magick and ask how to do something that's impossible, just to make me look stupid, insane, or like a troll."

What's so funny about doing that to yourself? After all, it's not as if we've been giving him irrational answers that anyone with any sense would get amusement out of[...did I just answer my own question there? Wink].

On the flip-side LupusStormDancer, if he IS serious, you just know that after reading TheFlyingSorcerer's reply concerning Physics that he was thinking something like "Well DUH, that's why I asked how to do it using magic! Jeez these people are dense!" Cheesy

Hah! Must admit I never thought of that! - but of course, even Magic can't nullify the Conservation laws. E is still equal to Mc2 no matter how many pentagrams you surround it with or how many wands you wave at it. That Mass still has to go somewhere; and most likely it's going to convert instantaneously into Energy.

I did some refining of my original rough calculations, and I guess my estimate of incinerating Texas was a bit excessive; but not by much. Converting 150kg of mass into energy would give an explosive yield of a bit more than 3000 megatons, which would result in an air blast radius of about 100km, and a thermal radiation radius of over 300km; thus, near-total obliteration of an area the size of one of the midwestern states, like Arizona or Wyoming. The fireball alone would be about 35km across.

For comparison purposes, the biggest thermonuclear device ever detonated, the Soviet Union's "Tsar Bomb", dropped from a modified Tupolev bomber in 1961 over the Russian Arctic, was rated at about 50 megatons; it scarified a big chunk of Novaya Zemblya. If such a monster had been dropped on, let's say, Seattle, it would have taken out everything between Everett and Tacoma. The proposed Mikeybomb would be sixty times bigger.

No, really, I don't have anything against Seattle. It was just an illustration. Some very nice people live in Seattle......

Not really. I used Seattle because I know the area. I used to live just up the highway in Vancouver, B.C. I could just as easily have used Vancouver as an example; or Kelowna (shudder); or Poughkeepsie for that matter.

Most of downtown Seattle is exactly like every other big North American city, so no particular emotional connection there, but I like the Underground City, the Waterfront, Pike Street Market, the old streetcars (which are actually from Melbourne, Australia; go figure)...... So, no, I truly don't want to nuke Seattle.

Evening everyone,
I wasn't going to reply, but here it is...
I have to agree with Flying S. Because even if we were to incinerate him, he would still take up the better part of a large coffee can.

Absolutly no threat intended. Just scientific observance.  Cheesy
