In search of Grimoires
«
on:
February 20, 2012, 10:12:39 PM »
I am currently searching for original or photo copies of original hand written Grimoires. The ones I am mostly interested in are those in regards to Demons and Angels. Language is not an issue. Age however is, I am not looking for any texts written in the last 100yrs. If it was hand copied from an original then that is fine, I however am not looking for someone's BoS. In the mean time, I must return to searching online auctions and rare books stores. If you have the subject matter I seek, msg me. no need to post a reply to this thread.

Finding one is unlikely, but some authors have placed part of ther "grimorires" or BoS in their books. Maybe you could start there....
All it takes is a few online searches.
Good luck

I have a few that where given to me by one of my old teachers, and some I have found over the years, Am always interested in adding to the collection, plus the knowledge gained is priceless. I also get a sense of satisfaction knowing that these texts are now well cares for and preserved for future generations. I have considered writing a Grimoire that includes some of all the texts I have, and a few of my own personal spells. The tricky part is limiting the publication and regulating the distribution of the Grimoire. It is not the kind of knowledge you would want readily available for just anyone to read. As it is, I doubt Wiccan covens would have much use for most of these kinds of spells, as they are more combat based and deal with malicious intent. However, such knowledge must not be lost, and there are those whom should take the time to learn and practice. I'm rambling, I know. Not much sleep these last few weeks, and the dang dreams when I do sleep are of the precog variety and not pleasing to see. Don't those of you who have precog dreams hate that. You dream the future, but can't control it to the point where you can see at you own will. I'm sure if I took the time to master my dream state I could get a handle on it, but frankly, I just have not had the time. Too many things to learn and master. Anyways, back to the topic, again if anyone even knows of a Grimoire out there I would be most grateful for the heads up.

Well, that is a great gift that people have shared and given these to you. Take great care, as I'm sure you do. Copyright is also something you need to think about if you decide to publish these writings.
I feel for you and the dream/sleep situation. I'm dealing with similar issues...
Again, good luck

Thanks. I take great care of my Grimoires. If I choose to write my own Grimoire with compilations taken from the ones I already own, I doubt that they have ever been copy writ, (have yet to see anything of the sort in any publication or the internet) Off to try and occupy my mind with some distraction and mind numbing movies. maybe that will help get some sleep.

Copyright Law is complex, and varies from country to country; but most Copyright legislation in most countries is broadly based on the Berne Convention of 1886, although the U.S didn't actually ratify the Convention until 1989. Basically, unless special conditions apply, in the U.S., Copyright on literary work is automatic (i.e. it doesn't have to be specifically applied for) and Copyright protection exists for 70 years after the death of the author.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright
So since most magical Grimoires are Mediaeval, or at least pre-1800s, and many are of unknown or anonymous authorship, I don't think you need to worry too much about accusations of plagiarism or Copyright Infringement.
In any case what is known as "Fair use" or Fair dealing" legislation in most countries (again, the exact terms vary from country to country) allows the copying of passages from Copyrighted work for personal use, or under certain conditions for other literary purposes, such as short quotations in reviews or for research, provided that the author of the work is given credit. Exactly how long a "short" excerpt can be is generally not defined, however, so this is somewhat of a grey area.
If you're intending to publish your work and it has a lot of long quotes from other works in it, you might decide you need the services of a Copyright lawyer, or at least a good literary agent.
Hope this helps.
