With elections coming up, there will be a lot of mud slinging. And more than 1/2 of what comes out of most politicians mouths are lies. They just want the desk and authority, IMHO.

I'd snopes it to see if there is any truth to it.

This time around it was Santorum. I've actually heard it before; caring about the earth is considered a form of idolatry to some right-wingers. Apparently their sky god gave them the earth to use and abuse, and since they're supposed to focus on the glory of heaven it doesn't matter what they do to the planet. Seems to be a way to justify being a jerk to the environment.

That was what I was going to guess. Though I had intended to "accidentally" call him Sanatorium as I believe he belongs in one for the mentally ill. LOL

That did occur to me, but being mentally ill myself (I'm actually on SSI because of it.), I figured I could get away with it. LOL

If Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum are the best that the Republicans have to offer the voters - what must the worst be like?

Oh. Right. Maybe these guys are the worst, intended by the Republican party pundits to appeal to the lowest possible common denominator of ignorance, stupidity and bigotry, which they seem to think characterises the majority of American voters. I trust, and hope, they're wrong. Though after Nixon, Reagan and the two Bushes, I fear the worst. The progression seems to be relentlessly downwards.

If any of these three clowns becomes president, I fear America is to become an international pariah, the laughingstock of the Western world. When I think of all the good, honest, decent Americans I am honoured to call my friends, I am deeply saddened. That a proud, progressive nation that once held out such hope to the world could sink so low would be a terrible tragedy.

Blessed Be everyone,

I read a thread on fb today in fact, (can't copy and paste, too many bad words) that bad mouthed America in such a way, it makes me think.."do people outside the US really think this way of us?"
I sure hope not.
But our leaders haven't been representing the majority in a while now..(at least that I can tell)

Unfortunately America has become a corporate run socialist republic. The president is no longer the country's leader but simply it's figure-head.

Keeping that in mind, is it no wonder this country's government seeks to bully other nations and commit other atrocities in the name of the almighty dollar? Really, wouldn't you hate the US if you were one of those other countries?

I guess it would depend on the country. I guess Mexico and Canada can't complain (j/k) people. There's a list of countries I could name that ate grateful for our help....there's also a list of counties that aren't as grateful...
Again(my words to live by, "it's all a matter of perspective"

I hope that this election bares prosperous fruit. Somehow, I get the feeling that this may not happen.

I'm not old enough to vote, but I'm also not too young to not form an opinion. All thre e seem to be using the Christian relegion as a crutch. Which they realy shouldn't be doing, because of the who e 'seperation of church and state (in this case, country and state)'. Not to mention, i'm beginnng to doubt there really is freedom of religion...lol.

Getting back on track, Atropos nailed it pretty well. The Bible teaches its believers that the earth and all of its resources were placed here for human use. A very bazaar notion to my way of thinking. Anyone who lives in the country, or the woods, knows that whole way of thinking is messed up. If we don't respect our environment, future generations will have nothing. But they don't seem to recognize that fact. They believe "God will provide". It's kind of a narrow, short sighted view of the world.

As for the President being an environmentalist, I don't think that's his motivation either. In this country, it all boils down to money. Blocking the pipeline had more to do with business, and big money lobbyists, than it has to do with caring about Mother Earth. The people with the money are the ones who get politicians elected, and they are the ones who elect a President...not the common people. The number of common votes doesn't elect a president, the Electoral College does. Al Gore found that out the hard way. He beat George W. Bush in common votes, but Bush took the Electoral College.  Caring about nature isn't good for big business, and big business will block those efforts everytime it costs them money. If you start to dig, you'll find that something bigger than natural gas (probably the oil companies) is why the pipeline got shot down. Politicians done look at things the same way we do. It's all about money for them, and getting support from those who have it.

Goodness gracious politicians will say anything if they think it will get them a vote he's just building off of the fact that people don't think Obama is even Christian. Santorum probably feels really stupid right about now lol  043 043 You just have to remember these politicians say whatever pops into theirs heads that they think will make them look good. For instance Romney said he didn't care abot upper class or lower class he was focused on the middle class. The best part about that is there realy is no middle class anymore it's just either you have money or you don't. I honestly don't like any of the choices for our future president. Anyway to touch base on what others have mentioned I have always felt we were the Earth's caretakers sadly we've done a pretty crummy job of doing it. And really I don't think a bunch of politicians truely care about that they are all just greedy and self centered at this point lol.
